Bread for the World - Offering of Letters

How you can help

Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. God's grace in Jesus Christ moves us to help our neighbors, whether they live in the next house, the next state, or the next continent. By changing policies and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities where we live.

We are a covenant Bread for the World church, and as people of faith we accept the responsibility to voice our belief that our nation's abundant resources should be used to feed the hungry.

We urge you to send hand written letters to Senators Warner and Webb, and Congressman Perriello. Ask them to do whatever they can to increase funding for domestic nutrition programs for children and women. Breakfast and lunch programs and summer lunch programs are needed.

Also ask them to support any changes that will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our foreign aid programs, especially pertaining to nutrition, health care, education, improved water systems, and long term solutions for poor families

As Christian men and women, we have a responsibility to be the voice for our brothers and sisters who cannot speak for themselves. Be an advocate for the poor, write a letter.

On April 26th many in the congregation wrote letters to their representatives to urge action on the bills pending before Congress. If you missed that opportunity you can still act. The addresses of our congressional representatives and sample letters which you can use to write your letters and participate are included in a file by clicking here.

A hand written response is known to be more effective with your representative.
