a Fair Trade logo, but, what does Fair Trade
really mean?
Fair Trade is a system of exchange that honors producers, communities, consumers and the environment. It encourages people to people connections, justice and sustainability. The prices charged attempt to cover production costs, as well as a fair living wage that should cover the basics of food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care.
Fair Trade importers purchase from Fair Trade cooperatives as directly as possible, eliminating unnecessary middlemen. Fair Trade co-operatives must agree to safe working conditions. Human rights and child labor laws are strictly enforced. Fair Trade farmers respect the natural habitat and are encouraged to engage in sustainable production methods.
